Unique Everyday Tips

The following tips have been submitted by my web visitors.  I cannot guarantee the accuracy or the effectiveness.  Use your own judgment & if in doubt consult your horses vet.

Bounce fabric softener sheets work wonders.  When I go riding I wind one around my horses bridle and I also hang one from my back pocket.  The flies won’t come near you!

~ Vikki B. of Millington, TN

I use Noxema to keep gnats and mosquitoes out of my horse’s ears.  Just rub it in on the top of their ears.  I also use it under the throat, chest, and inside the legs.

~ Michael G. of Monroe, NC

I have a horse that is scared to death to be sprayed with fly spray.  I cleaned out an old bingo blotter and filled it with fly spray.  Now I just have to dab it on.  This also works well for applying liniment and first aid ointments.

~Lisa M. of Paterson, NJ

Mix ¼ cup Calgon dry Bath Oil Beads with ¾ cup water.  Put in a spray bottle and spray on your horses’ mane & tail to recondition it.  This also works GREAT as a detangler.  Apply liberally and work knots out with a comb.

~ Amy L. of Talladega, AL

WD40 is works for really bad tangles, knots, and burrs.

~Diane & Mark W. of Provo, UT

When my horses have hair loss from scrapes I put liquid vitamin E on it.  The hair grows back quickly and the scar disappears.

~Jane D. of Montrose, CO

I find that using Desitin or A&D Ointment helps scars disappear.  It also works on old scars because it keeps the flies off the wound and helps new hair grow in.

~ Kimberly M. of Lansing, MI

I have a stubborn horse that won’t drink and becomes dehydrated.  To fix that problem I started adding Gatorade to his water to encourage him to drink.  He loves it!
