Prayers from a Horse

~ Give me time to know what you want of me.  I don’t understand your words.

~ Don’t be angry with me when I don’t understand.  I have only you to explain things to me.

~ Talk to me.  Even if I don’t understand your words, I understand your voice.

~ Be aware, however you treat me, I will not forget it.

~ Keep me safe from harm.  I am no longer wild and able to know my enemies.

~ Before you hit me, remember that I have teeth that could crush the bones in your hand and hooves that could kill you.  I choose not to use them.

~ Before you scold me for being lazy or uncooperative, ask yourself if I am well or if something may be bothering me.

~ My life is likely to last 20-30 years.  Please make sure I am taken care of because I cannot care for myself.

~ Go with me on difficult journeys.  Don’t say “I can’t stand to watch it” or “let it happen in my absence”.  Everything is easier for me if you are there.

~ Place your trust in me and I will trust you.

Thank you Marsha, owner of Dan Mar Ranch in Nunda, NY (www.danmarranch.com), for sharing this with us before we moved to South Carolina.
