Birthday Party Ideas

Being able to have a horse that kids can ride at your child’s party is always a hit, but even if you are not able to get a horse, you can still have a fun “Horse” or “Wild West” party!

Making your own invitations?

For a Wild West party make wanted posters with a picture of the birthday boy or girl

WANTED:

Friends of ____ the Kid

Wanted for cake games & lots of fun

(When, Where, & RSVP info)

Or come up with a cute little phrase such as “Gallop on Over” or “Calling all Buckaroos” and use rubber stamps or clip art that is available on the internet.

Cupcakes:

Game ideas:

Well, there’s the obvious:  Pin the Tail on the Horse OR Pin the Badge on the Sheriff

Or try some of these:

Lasso ~ Using a rope, create a lasso.  Use a rocking horse, make a stick horse or one out of scrap wood, or a large stuffed animal. Have the kids take turns. Have a special prize just in case you have a child get it on their first attempt.

Practice Jumps ~ Using books, paper bags, blankets or towels create a river to jump over.  Find out what “horse” can jump the farthest.  Every time the horses make it over the river, make the river a little wider.

Oat Eating Contest ~ Put one–two cups of “horse feed” (cheerios) in brown lunch bags.  Roll the sides of the bags down. Who will finish first? (No using your hands!)

Apple Eating Contest ~ Eat apples from a tree like the horses do! Using string, hang apples in a tree. Prize for the first to get a bite out of the apple.

Lost Horses ~ Buy a bag or two of small horses.  Hide them throughout the yard and see who can find the most.

Party Favors & Gift Bag Ideas:

Bandanas, cowboy hats, squirt gun, sheriff badges, tattoos

How old are your little partiers???

You might want to encourage adult attendance.  On the invitation consider including a note to parents.  Invite Dads to stay and play Horseshoes & let Moms know that there will be a social area.  Maybe include a “Backyard BBQ”.

When my daughter turned 4 I invited her whole daycare class (14 - 3 & 4 year olds).  On the invitation I included “Parents you are welcome to stay”.  Only one parent stayed & I didn’t know most of the kids.  Boy, was I happy when that party was over!  That had to be the most stressful birthday party ever!

ENJOY  THE  PARTY!
